Advanced Aesthetics Courses.. what you need to know!
NEW Advanced Aesthetics Courses!

With our NEW Advanced Aesthetics Courses launching in November, now is the time to get prepared. In this blog weโll cover all of the actions to take for a successful roll out of the new treatments within your business.
But firstly, what are the courses weโre offering?
- Dermaplaningย offers deep exfoliation removing dead skin cells, blockages, make up and vellus hair from the upper layer of the surface of the skin using a surgical scalpel to refine skin. (1/2 day training ยฃ349)
- Microneedlingย also known as dermarolling or collagen induction therapy is administered using a dermaroller or automated pen applicator to stimulate collagen growth and repairing of skin. (1/2 day training ยฃ349)
- Skin Peels, often known also as โchemicalโ peels work using natural acids to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells using specialised products applied topically to the skin. (1/2 day training ยฃ225)
- LED Lightย Therapyย works to soothe the skin, boosting natural skin healing following more invasive treatments and is hugely rejuvenating for the skin. (1/2 day training ยฃ199)
We will also be combining the courses into a 2 day training package. This training package combines all of ourย Advanced Aesthetics Coursesย for ยฃ1099.
Get prepared.. Here are our top considerations for getting started with these new treatments!
Prerequisites for study
As the new courses are advanced treatments that can impact the skin on a molecular level, you will need to have the skills and knowledge to safely deliver these services to your clients. We will require all attendees to be experienced in delivering facial skin care at a professional level.
There will be the following prerequisite qualifications needed to attend the courses:
- VTCT Level 2 (or equivalent) in Facials
- VTCT Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Facials.
Not yet qualified? No need to panic, we have reduced the cost of these courses by ยฃ400 until the 28th October, so now is the time to book and start your journey towards becoming an Advanced Aesthetics practitioner.
Marketing
Now is the time to start promoting the treatments to your clients. Your current Facial clients are the ideal place to start, these treatments will also attract new clients more interested in instant results! Below are a few ways to get started with promoting the new treatments.
Existing Facial clients:
- Send out e-blast messages sharing the benefits of the new treatments
- Hold a launch event, offer mini treatment tasters and demonstrations, these could be themed around the festive season or โnew year new youโ
- Run an introductory offer for your loyal clients
- Change your answering phone message to highlight โwhat’s newโ
- Link to your retail products as a way of maintaining their skin and increasing retail/treatment sales, i.e. โbook a course of treatments and receive a free miniโs kitโ
Target potential new clients:
- Grow your social media presence, videos tend to receive more interaction than photos. Why not vlog your training journey?
- Connect with local businesses, do you have a local bridal shop? Hairdressers? Why not team up to promote each others business, you could throw in a treatment to sweeten the deal!
Preparing your and your clientโs skin for the treatments
These advanced treatments will have more of a targeted effect on the skin, treating more progressive skin challenges such as acne, ageing and hyperpigmentation. With this in mind you can start preparing your skin ready for treatments. The healthier the skin is prior to treatment the better the result and faster healing time post treatment.
- Hydration is important
Increasing skin hydration with richer moisturisers, adding serums and facial oils into a skin routine and using water/oil based facial masks 2-3 times a week.
- Build up the skins tolerance level
We wouldnโt advise going straight into a chemical peel if you have never exfoliated the skin, with this in mind slowly building up your skins tolerance levels to chemical exfoliation will yield the best results. Lactic acid is a great ingredient as it also improves hydration. Avoid exfoliating at home 48hrs before your treatment
- Retinol (Vitamin A)
Retinol is a fantastic ingredient for skin conditions and complements these advanced treatments, but avoid using it 48hrs before.
- SPF
Ensure you have at least an SPF30 for everyday use following your treatment. Physical (sometimes referred to as mineral) SPF products are more tolerated by exposed skins following treatment.
- Avoid using sunbeds and tanning before and after your treatments
ย

We hope you are as excited as we are to welcome you on these courses!

Are all Online Beauty Courses accredited & insurable?
With lockdown restrictions in place, many aspiring beauty therapists are turning to online training courses. And why not? They offer flexible, affordable training that can be completed safely and conveniently from home. But are all beauty courses equal with so many new beauty training companies popping up online? We discuss what you should look out before before you take the leap…
Accreditation
Accreditation simply refers to if the course is recognised and validated by an external awarding or industry recognised body who will check the quality of the training course and provider to ensure they are meeting a good standard of delivery and are suffcient in content to enable the student to succesfully learn the treatment skills and go on to safely practice the treatments in the industry upon completion. Many new beauty training companies popping up claim to be accredited, however they are often registered on with a CPD register service which just validates how many hours the course entails, it doesnโt necessarily ensure any quality of course or standard of delivery. Without the right accreditation you may end up with a certificate that is not recognised by professionals in the beauty industry meaning you may not be able to gain insurance, to buy products from professional sources and therefore you may not end up being able to work with clients and to earn. Rest assured, all courses offered by The Beauty Academy are accredited with recognised beauty industry bodies and accrediting partners. We offer qualifications through VTCT who regularly inspect our training centres and provision to ensure the highest standards are being delivered for our classroom courses. All Classroom Courses and Virtual Academy (Live online training) are accredited by Associated Beauty Therapists (ABT). All of our self-paced Online Courses (delivered through our Online Student Portal) are accredited by International Practioners of Holistic Medicine (IPHM). These means the certificates you achieve will be recognised and valued by those in the industry and allow you to actually earn as a beauty professional.
Insurance
Many training companies are secretive about who their Online courses are insurable with, simply saying โyes with many providersโ but cagey on who. Unfortunately this may then result in your achieving a certificate for a treatment which you then cannot either add to your existing beauty insurance policy or to acquire new insurance to cover, therefore being unable to offer the service. All courses offer by The Beauty Academy are recognised by the industry leading insurers including Balens, ABT, IPHM, Insync & Radius insurance among many others. This means you can absolutely obtain beauty liability insurance to cover you as a professional therapist upon completion of your course(s) to enable you to actually begin working and earning from your treatments and reaping the rewards of your hard work and investment in the courses.
We are open and honest about our courses, what career routes they can lead to and in helping to guide you to the best path for you. If youโre unsure of the best start, weโll always advise you to start with the cheaper option such as our Online Courses which start at ยฃ99 to allow you to try out the training and treatments, make sure it is right before you but potentially upgrading to a larger course package or qualification option such as VTCT awards. We want you to be on the best training option for you, whether that is face to face training or online courses. And what is more, weโre here for you throughout your studies and beyond. Our expert Support Team can answer any questions you may have whether about insurance, products, treatment step by steps and more. We fully support your progress towards an exciting new career in beauty.

What are the Advantages of Virtual Academy Beauty Training over Classroom Courses?
With many of us having experienced more flexible working arrangements during lockdown and the benefits of staying connected online, more of us are feeling confident in taking other aspects of our lives online. Not only does online training allow you to study safely from home without any risks of Coronavirus posed from travel or being present in person, it is also flexible to fit into your life. There is no travel cost or time to consider, no early morning rushed commutes or needing to pay for additional childcare while you are away from home. There are no physical barriers to overcome as there is no attendance needed. The costs are also reduced for the training provider in offering online training versus overheads for bricks and mortar classroom based training, which translates as more affordable training options for students. Our courses start from only ยฃ99 and are fully accredited for insurance with ABT, giving you the exact same qualification as those achieved by attending face to face classroom training. All the benefits of classroom learning, without the hassle.
What are Virtual Academy Courses?
The Beauty Academy Virtual Academy courses are fully interactive online training sessions, led by our expert tutors. Ask questions using the chat box facility or a headset to communicate with your tutor. Questions can be answered in real time or saved until the best moment for response, avoiding breaking the tutors flow of thought and minimising disruption for all students. Watch the recording back of the session as often as you need to help the knowledge sink in and refresh your understanding. It also takes away the need to scribe lots of notes during the session, allowing you to sit back, relax and take it all in.
All students receive comprehensive course notes by email to keep and refer back to. Also a short online pre-course learning task is delivered through our Online Portal to cover the essential health and safety knowledge. Study this at your own pace ready for your live online training session.
Beyond your training session you have a chance to put your skills into practice, delivering your treatments on friends/family in your bubble at home or using a nail trainer hand / mannequin training head. Build your confidence and receive individual feedback on these treatments to help you develop competent ability in delivering your treatments. Once completed, you will receive your ABT Accredited diploma ready to gain insurance and begin using your skills to start your own beauty business or add to your existing treatment offering. Work with paying clients from home or mobile. Virtual Academy offers a cost effective, time efficient and enjoyable way to learn!

You have a recording of the session to watch back allowing you to rewind and fast forward the demonstrations while practising your treatments. When ready you arrange to attend an online support and assessment session where you practice your treatments, watched live by your tutor and receive final feedback to achieve your certificate. We have had a large number of students complete our Virtual Academy courses successfully and return for further courses.
You will achieve a diploma issued by The Beauty Academy and accredited by ABT for insurance and recognition in the beauty industry. It is the same standard you would achieve as if attending a face to face classroom based course. It gives you the same opportunities to get insured and begin earning from home or mobile.

At The Beauty Academy we offer two options for Online Study, both provide an accredited certificate on completion;
- Online Courses completed through our Student Portal. You receive access to a wealth of high quality learning resources, written by beauty professionals including comprehensive manuals and detailed video demonstrations. You take multiple choice online tests throughout the course which are great for checking your understanding and learning as you progress through the course. These can be taken as often as needed until you achieve a pass. You also submit a small number of case studies to us by email which are assessed against industry standards to ensure your proficiency with the treatment skills. Individual feedback to help you improve and you simply resubmit as needed until you are at a successful level to achieve. Typically students complete these courses within 2-6 weeks (allowing usually around 2-10 hours per week to study), although you have 8 weeks should you need to go slower. Achieve an IPHM accredited certificate, courses start at only ยฃ99!
- Virtual Academy Courses are completed through live, tutor led training sessions delivered online through Zoom. Initially you complete some basic health and safety theory through our Online Student Portal. You then โattendโ your online teaching session which typically lasts 60-90 minutes. A recording of the session is emailed to you which can be watched back as often as you need. You submit your one best case study of a recommended 3 minimum for feedback. Once a suitable standard of treatment skill is achieved, you โattendโ a short online session where a tutor observes you complete some basic treatment skills to ascertain your confidence and given final feedback. Once completed, you achieve an ABT accredited certificate, courses start at only ยฃ149!

Our courses are accredited for insurance purposes. Courses accredited by IPHM are accepted by their recommended insurers for work in the UK, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, parts of the USA, & most of Europe. ABT offer insurance for therapists primarily working in the UK and temporarily overseas (except USA/Canada). This means upon completion of your online course(s) you can successfully begin working either from home or mobile offering your treatments and begin earning, once insured.
The requirements of individual salons / employers / local council licensing will vary. Generally speaking most students entering the beauty industry will do so to be able to start their own business working from home or mobile as this is often the most lucrative way to work in the industry with uncapped earning potential. Online courses may enable you to gain work in a salon either employed or more likely on a self-employed basis as the certificate is accredited, however for those such as college leavers looking to qualify to gain full time salon employment, you may wish to consider more formal options of training such as VTCT Qualifications.
How do I sign up?

What’s in a brand name?
We have lots of students ask us about courses such as Eyelash Extensions, Highly Defined Brows and Lash Lift & Tinting. They are confused as they have seen courses offered by beauty suppliers, branded courses and online courses and they don’t know where to start in regards to what the key differences are. First let’s cover what the term trademark is as this is essential to understanding brand-specific courses…
What is a trademark?
A trademark is a way for a brand, company, producer or other legal entity to identify themselves and the products or services they produce, provide or source. It is a way for someone to recognise one entity (or brand from another) and for consumers to identify the origin of a product or service.ย Trademarks can be registered by the trademark owner and licensed in regards to specific types of usage. By registering a trademark, it can prevent use of the relevant name, logo, phrase or other ‘mark’ to be used without authorised licence from the trademark holder. Such unauthorised use can be considered trademark infringement and can open the person using such up to legal proceedings including prosecution or claims for damages. Brand specific training courses are those offered by such registered trademark owners and they often allow you to then go on to provide treatments using their products, to buy (or resell) their products and to use their logos/brand names within your own advertising.

The Beauty Academy Courses
All courses offered within our training centres are non-brand specific courses which teach you the fundamental knowledge and practical skills to deliver lash extension, lash lift or brow shaping and defining treatments. We teach the generic skills of these classic and in-demand beauty treatments. You achieve our in-house diploma certificate which is accredited by ABT and allows you to gain insurance to begin offering your treatments to clients. The beauty of our courses are that they are professional courses covering the core knowledge and skills for these treatments, they are accredited but they are much more affordable (starting from only ยฃ99) than many of the brand specific courses. They do not tie you in to any specific brand or supplier before youโre fully familiar and practised with the treatment. Many students find they complete brand specific training (which often require you to purchase their costly branded kits to attend the course) but once they begin offering their treatments on a regular basis and start speaking with clients, they find they prefer working with a different brand or clients are asking about other brand names. Often this requirement to purchase kits means half of the kit contents is also used up on the training day(s) themselves also leaving little product to go on to practice with. At The Beauty Academy, we provide all products and tools required to attend our courses at the centre on the day(s) at no additional cost. The only exception to this is where a patch test is required for which we keep the cost minimal.
Branded Courses
There are many brand names for specific treatments such as lash lift, lash extensions, and highly defined brows treatments. We donโt need to list them since you will have heard of most of them along the way when searching for a training course. These courses are usually significantly more expensive but this additional cost is attributed to the fact that you will be able to advertise using their brand names, as a brand specific trained therapist. This may be advantageous for salons who benefit from large shop front window displays using the recognisable brand logos and who can command much higher treatment prices to reclaim the cost; but the additional cost is not usually viable for mobile therapists, those just starting out in beauty (and so who donโt know what brand they prefer yet) or necessary for those who are already very established therapists with an existing client base.
The pros of a non-brand specific course such as The Beauty Academy courses:
- Much lower initial course cost (from only ยฃ99 for courses with The Beauty Academy)
- The Beauty Academy face to face courses are all accredited with ABT & online courses recognised by Radius insurance
- No starter kits are required to attend our training day(s) unlike most brand specific courses
- No commitment to any specific brand, get qualified, get experienced & then decide whatโs right for you once you understand the treatment and your clientโs needs
- Great, quick and affordable way to learn something new, try out a new treatment service & see if itโs for you and your client base.
The cons of a non-brand specific course:
- You canโt use any trademark protected brand names to describe or advertise your treatment services, however you can use a wide range of treatment related non-brand specific terms. If you later wish to utilise brand names, a simple conversion course can assist with this (see more about this below).
- You might not be able to purchase branded products directly from the brand themselves, however you will be insured to use any brand of products to deliver your treatments. Similar professional (and cost effective) products can be purchased from large beauty wholesalers like Beauty Express.
OR
The pros of a brand specific course:
- You can advertise your treatments using their brand name / trade mark / brand logos
- In some areas you may be able to charge a small premium on โbrandedโ treatments but often applicable only to salons or established therapists. Generally treatment price ranges are reasonably fixed by treatment type and area regardless of brand of products used as you must remain competitive to attract new, and maintain regular clients.
The cons of a brand specific course:
- Much higher course cost with branded training providers (usually from around ยฃ399 per 1 day course)
- Often requires commitment to purchase an expensive brand specific kit to attend the course (as they want to โtie you inโ to their brand)
- Much of the kit is used on the training day itself & when starting out, rarely are students optimally economical with product so makes initial practice costly also
- You may begin offering branded treatments with little knowledge of your clientโs needs or preferences. You may then find yourself tied to that specific brand with additional cost to retrain within an alternative brand to buy different products or indeed be insured to use other brands as many brand specific courses are not accredited.
Conversion Courses
Remember that once you have completed a generic, accredited training course such as those offered by The Beauty Academy and are insured within those treatments, you will be able to purchase professional products from most leading beauty wholesalers including Beauty Express (just not always direct from the specific product brand). You always have the option to complete a shorter โconversionโ course with most leading branded course providers from only ยฃ99 (depending on the brand), if you later wish to become brand specific and to use their brand name as part of your advertising. These courses also help you refresh and occasionally advance your skills once you have had some time within the industry providing treatments and once youโve gained insight into the available brands and identified the one best for your budget and clientโs needs through experience of the industry. Most quality branded providers offer these courses to attract your business to purchasing their products, build their community of brand qualified therapists and raise their brand profile.
Generic Terms for Advertising Treatments
Many successful salons and independent therapists have huge success in promoting and offering their treatment services including lash extensions, lash lift and brow treatments charging the โgoing rateโ for their location and type of offering e.g. mobile, home based or in-salon. Anyone can describe and advertise using generic terms to promote your services (or indeed be creative with the naming of your treatments to stand out from the crowd). Just take care not to infringe upon existing registered trademarks and brand names unless you are brand trained or otherwise authorised by the brand to do so. Doing so can open you personally as a therapist or indeed your salon/business up to legal action from the trademark owner or brand which is bad for business and could be expensive. Generic terms for treatments as follows, are great ways to promote your services:
Eyelash Extensions โ Classic Lashes, Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions, Volume Lashes, Russian Volume Lashes, Celebrity Lashes, Volumised Lashes, Eyelash Extensions, Lash Extensions, American Lashes, American Volume Lashes, Lash Enhancement etc.
Lash Lift & Tinting โ Lash Lift, Tinting, Ultimate Lash Lift & Tint, Natural Lift Lashes etc.
Brow Treatments โ Highly Defined Brows, Defined Brows, Ultimate Brows, Enhanced Brows, Brow Shape & Tint, Brow Redefining etc.
If you have any questions about brand names, your course or certification or how best to advertise your treatment services, please donโt hesitate to contact our Support team at [email protected] and they will be happy to help!
