VTCT Online Written Exam Dates

Written exams can only be booked once you’ve had confirmation from our team that your coursework is all signed off as complete and you’ve returned an ‘Assessment Request Form’ to allow us to register your exams correctly.

You will receive a ‘rescheduling code’ by email inviting you to book your written exam date. You will need this code to override the stated course fee & book your exam through our website free of charge. Enter this code in the ‘rescheduling code’ box at checkout.

VTCT Written exams are completed online, from student’s own home using student’s own pc/laptop through Zoom and the VTCT exam website.

  • Students will require access to their own pc or laptop with webcam (or access to a mobile device with camera, alongside their pc/laptop).
  • Students will need a stable, high speed internet connection to complete their written examinations.

We recommend students take time to revise thoroughly using the extensive learning resources on the online student portal (including study guides and course notes) to be best prepared for exams.

Exam results are provided by email within 7 days of taking your exams. Once written exams are passed, you will be offered practical assessment dates.

Key Information for VTCT Online Written Exams

VTCT Written exams are completed online, from student’s own home using student’s own pc/laptop through Zoom and the VTCT exam website.

Students will require access to their own pc or laptop with webcam (or access to a mobile device with camera, alongside their pc/laptop).

Students will need a stable, high speed internet connection to complete their written examinations.

You will be asked to produce official photo ID (driving licence, passport etc.) to confirm your name and attendance on the exam Zoom session. Please have this ready.

  • Students should wear professional uniform (beauty tunic, black trousers, hair tied back, jewellery removed) for all assessment, including online written exams to meet awarding body requirements.
  • Exams need to be taken in a quiet environment. Exams are taken under exam conditions, students must not talk during exams as this may disturb other students.
  • If you need assistance, contact the invigilator through the chat box option and the invigilator will place you in a separate ‘breakout room’ on Zoom to speak with you individually.
  • No other persons should be present with you in the room during your exams, at any time, to include children.
  • Students must not eat (including chewing gum), smoke or vape during exams. Drinking water is permitted. Agreed breaks will be given for those taking a full day of exams.
  • All course notes, revision resources must be removed from your exam area / desk before exam start.
  • Failure to adhere to exam conditions could lead you to be disqualified from the exam, or even permanently from the qualification.

  • Written exams all take a multiple choice question format.
  • It is under ‘closed book exam conditions’ so no course notes or the like must be in your work area. Checks will be made of your room / exam area, prior to exam start.
  • You will usually have between 45-60 minutes per exam paper.
  • Online written exams will be scheduled for a full day from 10.30am – 4.30pm.
  • There will be between 2-10 students per online exam session on Zoom.
  • The invigilator will admit you to the Zoom session ‘waiting room’ at the agreed session start time, then carry out pre-exam checks individually with each student prior to exam start including checking photo ID.
  • You will watch a short video reiterating exam conditions and guidance on exam format.
  • The invigilator will provide all required passwords to sit your papers, one exam at a time during the exam session.
  • If you need to use the toilet or take a break, please finish your current exam attempt then send a message in the chat box to the invigilator to agree your break before leaving the exam session.
  • When you finish the exam, you must show your screen to the invigilator to confirm you have fully logged out the VTCT exam website, before leaving the Zoom session.
  • The invigilator will provide all required passwords to sit your papers, one exam at a time during the exam session.
  • If you need to use the toilet or take a break, please finish your current exam attempt then send a message in the chat box to the invigilator to agree your break before leaving the exam session.
  • When you finish the exam, you must show your screen to the invigilator to confirm you have fully logged out the VTCT exam website, before leaving the Zoom session.

  • You must achieve 70% or above on every exam paper to pass.
  • If you do not achieve 70% on all papers, you need retake only those exam papers where the minimum 70% pass mark was not met.
  • Exam results are provided by email within 7 days of taking your exams.
  • If 4-6 attempts at an exam are required, you will sit an alternative paper thereafter attempt 3, known as Paper B.
  • Exam resits are scheduled as a half day (3 hour) session, where a maximum of 3 papers can be taken per session.

We include 1 initial online written exam session and 1-2 initial practical assessments (as required for the award) within your enrolment fee.

  • Exam resit costs are £25 per paper (or £50 per Paper B) or capped at £75 per half day (or £120 per Paper B resit half day) as required.

Paper Bs are charged at a higher rate due to the fee per Paper B required, set by the awarding body, alongside the standard admin cost in providing additional exam sessions.

Due to the admin and fees involved in requesting your online VTCT exams, which must be done no later than 14 days before the exam date; we must enforce a rescheduling fee.

  • If you need to reschedule your assessment once booked, this will be a a charge of £120 to rebook. This can only be waived for medical reasons for the named student, with medical proof e.g. doctor’s note.

Only once written exams are passed, you will be offered practical assessment dates.
