Top Beauty Trends for Wedding Season 2020

Wedding season is nearly upon us and as any good beauty therapist knows, it is essential to know the market and what will be popular this year in preparation for meeting with your clients to ensure you exceed their expectations on their big day. Top trends this year are predicted to be all-around natural beauty and making the most of your features for a youthful glow. Our blog highlights the key beauty trends and looks you need to know…

Flawless Skin

It’s all about perfect preparation to ensuring a flawless, clear complexion and youthful glow. To ensure this, advise your clients to book in for a course of facial skin care treatments beginning at least 3 months before the big day. Promote discounts on booking courses of facial treatments and really promote your advanced treatments such as microdermabrasion to maximise the benefits of good skin preparation ready for makeup on the big day. A natural dewy glow is set to beat heavier make up looks of previous years so look to ensure you have CC creams, camouflage make up products to help with skincare concerns such as hyperpigmentation and don’t forget strobing and highlighting for a smooth, even complexion that glows natural health and beauty.¬†Buildable, light foundations that allow freckles and natural skin to shine through will be the look to achieve, but with no less polish and demure glam finish.

Blushing Brides are Back

Tanning is out and blush is in. A soft pink or peachy cheek cream blush look is definitely set to be huge for Spring and Summer weddings in 2020. Heavy tans and dark bronzers are definitely a no-no this year. Mineral makeup and airbrushing are definitely back in favour and will hugely benefit your client lasting all day and being non-comedogenic so won’t block pores or cause blemishes to pop up once on their honeymoon. Glowing cheeks will sit well with the popular white or metallic eyeliner trend that is set to be huge for brides in 2020. Sparkle may also be added for a relaxed festival vibe with face glitter and crystal embellishments in demand for brides and their bridesmaids alike.

Barely There Make Up that Highlights One Key Feature

The big look this year is all-around focusing on your best feature so whether that is perfect brows or bold eye makeup – but not both. Strong lips have also taken a back seat this year with dark lips set to fade out of favour. In its place with soft shimmery or pastel shades of stain or gloss that complements the natural blush on cheeks. It’s about stripping back the products, using only what’s needed and focusing all eyes on that one best feature for your bride with everything else simply enhancing natural, minimalist beauty. Brow and lash treatments are essential in the run-up to the big day so don’t forget to include these in your bridal beauty packages. The big look is bigger, fuller brows so brow lamination is set to be one of the most in-demand treatments, along with more stripped back lash extension looks such as hybrid lashes and a resurgence of classic lashes rather than heavy volume lashes. Dark smokey eyes and cut creases will take a back seat for daytime weddings, with natural 2 or 3 shade well-blended eye shades being the order of the day. Define eyes with brown or blue liner to the upper lash line and white or metallic to the lower waterline for a bright-eyed look.

Hair Will Be Making Waves

Soft natural waves, half up – half down styles and pretty plaits held with gentle bows, floral decorations or small slides will be key this year. Hard, fixed and heavily pinned styles will be less in focus this wedding season as more celebrity weddings take a more laid back approach. Veils and tiaras are to be less often seen with more slides, bows and barrette clips to be seen to replace the more traditional accessories for a more ethereal feel. Bold pearl, rhinestone and lace hairbands have also been seen on the bridal catwalks in favour of the usual wedding headwear.

Polished to Perfection

Nail extensions are set to be less popular, but of French finish where used with feather or crystal embellisments in place of bold nail art. Gel is set to be more popular than acrylic for extensions and gel polish is going to be huge this wedding season as more brides seek a more refined but natural option. Pearlescent shades of pink, silver, white, peach and taupe will be most in demand with some seeking to off set the very neutral colour pallette with something brighter such as a dark black-red shade or even navy. Don’t forget to get your bridal clients booked in for regular manicures in the 3 months leading up to their wedding to ensure their natural nails are strong, long and ready for the final look in the week before the big day.

Maximise your Bookings…

Don’t be afraid to approach bridal clients with packages. We recommend pulling together 3 good packages that offer something for all budgets and combine the ever-popular lash, brow, skincare, waxing and nail treatments. You might even want to offer pre-wedding pamper packages with a massage to help ease away pre-wedding day jitters and tension as the wedding planning peaks. Ensure you arrange hair and makeup trials in plenty of time before the big day so you can feel prepared and ensure you have all the products and tools you require within your kit ready for the wedding morning. It will also help you establish the clients’ needs and manage expectations, along with helping you plan the timings for the day and allow everything to run smoothly on the day with no last-minute changes or surprises. Also ensure you take a deposit when booking in the trials and agree to have full payment made 7-10 days before the big day so that there is no awkwardness chasing payment on the day when the bridal party will otherwise be busy. This is very much standard in the industry as wedding bookings take up a considerable amount of your working day(s) over the wedding season and last minute cancellations can cost you dearly as a beauty professional. Beyond the big day, you might look to send a congratulations card or text to your bride offering a discount or offer for use upon their return from honeymoon to help you establish a new regular client e.g. a discount on their nail or lash maintenance to help them keep the post-wedding glow going as long as possible.
