New Year, New Career – But How to Get Started in Beauty?

The festive season is on its way and soon many of us may be considering our plans for 2019. Once the festivities pass, we will think of returning to work perhaps in a career we just don’t love. Or maybe we’ll be thinking of ways to make some additional money to top up following Christmas spending? What better way to start the New Year than with a new career (or new additional earning opportunity) within beauty!

It might seem daunting (or expensive) at first, thinking of retraining in beauty but our blog this week focuses on the essential info you need to turn 2019 into the best year yet for you!

What to do?

First you need to consider how you want to work – do you want to choose your own working hours / days or have a flexible job? Working from home or mobile might just be the perfect option for you. Our Online, 1 Day & Quick Start Course packages are the perfect options for you.

If you’re looking to start a complete new career and would rather have the reassurance of having employment within a salon or spa, then you might consider the VTCT Qualifications (which are internationally recognised, a complete CV changer and the qualification employers are seeking).

Next, you need to consider which treatments you wish to learn. What appeals to you most? Is it nails, massage, facial skincare, make up, lashes and brows or just getting a good all-round knowledge of beauty (e.g. for those looking to work in a salon)?

If you want to start your own business from home or mobile, you might like to focus on just one area or a few specific treatments to train within and offer inititally. Training within just a couple of treatments to start with allows you to keep the cost of training down with room to learn extra treatments further down the line once you’ve gained clients and had a chance to find out from them just which treatments they would like you to offer further.

If you’re looking at the VTCT qualifications to gain employment, these come at Level 2 within Nails, Beauty or Make Up and at Level 3 within Massage. If you want to work in a salon, you’d be looking at Level 2 Nails or Beauty. If you want to work in a Spa you can go straight into training within Massage at Level 3. If you want to work as a Freelance Make Up Artist with the option to work for make up brands or within salon, you could consider the Level 2 in Cosmetic Make Up.

How to Study?

For those looking to work from home or mobile, you can consider our face to face training courses or our Online options which give the flexibility of allowing you to study anywhere, anytime at your own pace. With face to face training, you have the advantage of being qualified very quickly (many courses are only 1 day!) following which you can gain insurance to begin working with paying clients!

Our VTCT qualifications are studied as a combination of face to face training, home study using our online student portal and then assessment days once you’re ready and confident. You have 12 months to complete the qualifications but many students qualify as quickly as within 4-9months!

With all courses, you have free and unlimited access to our in-house Support Team who are all qualified beauty professionals with knowledge of the industry. They are available to assist you by phone or email during your course and beyond!

Spreading the Cost

All courses over £299 are available on finance through our third party finance provider. With a minimum of 20% deposit required and the rest spread over a 12, 24 or 36 month repayment agreement to make retraining affordable. Our team will be happy to give advice and assist you if you wish to go ahead with a finance application.

Starting Working

Once you have completed your training, you will receive The Beauty Academy diploma which is accredited by Associated Beauty Therapists (ABT) and allows you to gain insurance to begin working from home or mobile with paying clients. You will also be able to approach professional beauty suppliers to purchase products at wholesale prices. For those following the VTCT programmes, you would also receive a VTCT qualification from the awarding body within 12 weeks of completing your assessment days but once you have finished your last assessment day, you are classed as qualified so can begin working within a salon or spa immediately. There are so many opportunities within beauty no matter which basis on which you choose to work. For those starting their own business, they may like to consider the Online Business Course to help plan, launch and market their business.

I have done a few courses at the Cambridge and London venues and loved all of them. Staff is very friendly and professional at the same time which makes it easy to learn the theory and also the techniques. Teachers pay attention to each student and gives honest advises and support. I highly recommend The Beauty Academy for everyone.

I attended the Spa body massage course which I thoroughly enjoyed. Our tutor Lisa was lovely and made the course very enjoyable and learnt a lot from this 2 day course. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanted a career in massage therapy. I will be booking more courses in the future with The Beauty Academy. Thank you!

Excellent trainers who have loads of knowledge that only comes with experience. Enjoyed both courses I’ve done at The Beauty Academy and they’ve left me feeling very confident in my treatments.
