How to add festive glamour to your make up this Christmas
You’ve boughtthe perfect party dress and dancing shoes but in order to nail your Christmasparty look, you need help with your make-up. Don’t worry. Here, experts at TheBeauty Academy, talk top tips for festive faces.
Christmas is about all manner of indulgence – fromovereating and overspending to glitter, glam and glitz.
And one area which can always benefit from a good doseof festive excess is in the beauty department.
This year it’s all about metallic eyes, brightlipsticks, silvery shades, gold, bronze and neon nails.
But you can’t have all these things at once.
The key to the best look is to work out what suitsyour complexion, what goes with your outfit and what is easy to achieve.
Get the look
The tutors who run the beauty courses in London forThe Beauty Academy have put their heads together and come up with ten toptricks to help you. Pick one or two to create a beautiful party look.
1.The smoky eye.
The smoky eye look remains a key trend to lookglamorous and sultry – but how can you get it right without looking like you’vegot two black eyes? Start with a pale base, then sweep a darker color over thelid. Do not go right up to the eyebrow. Keep the concentration of darkness towardsthe eye itself and accentuate with smudgy liner.
We love tinsel on the tree and lights around the home. They make everything look beautiful. The same is true for highlighting make-up.
Get your own shimmer with a sweep of glittering powderor bronzer on your cheekbones, below your brow bone and on the inner corner ofthe eyes. If your skin is light, reach for a pink-based highlighter, whilemedium or dark-skinned women should try golden tones.
3. Pluck those brows
Brows do so much to frame your face that simplygrooming them, which includes combing the hairs and filling in bare spots, willgive you a prompt pick-me-up.
4. Nail it
From gel nails to acrylic, fake nails are a great wayto add a little elegance. Try some cool nail art to add to the effect.
At The Beauty Academy we run courses specificallytailored at teaching you how to get the perfect manicure.
It always helps to have a bit of color on your faceduring the winter months. Skin can get pale and pasty so having a natural-lookingfake tan applied can help make you look a little more radiant than the weatherpermits.
6. Go for gold
Gold – and silver – are both indicative of the festiveseason. Try adding a bit of gold shadow to your eyelids or pick up a pot ofsilver glitter powder to add sparkle to your look.
7. Get lip-licking
Chocolate not only is the yummiest treat of the seasonbut also a sweet alternative to red lipstick. Skip the matte browns and reachfor those with mauve or reddish undertones.
8. Brave the blush
Icy walks, roaring log fires and plenty of gigglingcan induce a rosy complexion. But to amp up your natural rosiness try mixingcomplementary blush colours, one darker and one lighter. Add to the apples ofyour cheeks.
9. Glossy glow
Shiny lips are always pretty, but when the shades arepale (think peach, pink, and coral) and flecked with shimmer, they merit a topspot in your makeup case. Lip gloss should be paired with smoky eyes for thebest combination.
10. Slick on the mascara
Eyelashes should be long, thick and vampy. Add anextra coat of black mascara and tease out each lash for a party look.Alternatively consider applying some fake lashes for extra drama.
